The Artist
Heather Lavender
Painter · Tattenhall, Cheshire

"I paint to create joy - for myself first, and then for anyone lucky enough to live with the work."
A life shaped by colour
Heather Lavender grew up surrounded by the extraordinary light and landscape of Southern Africa - a place where colour is not decoration but temperature, emotion, and life itself. It lives in the warmth of her palette, in the way she approaches a canvas without fear, and in the sheer generosity of her compositions.
Her unique paintings elevate an interior through atmosphere, presence and emotional depth.
Her paintings are bold and unapologetically themselves - designed to transform a room, to stop you in a doorway, to make you feel something.
The Process
In the studio
Heather works in acrylics and oils on canvas, building up her paintings in layers - blocking in tone and composition first, then gradually bringing in the detail and richness that characterise her finished work. A large floral piece might take two to three weeks. A mural, longer.
She works from life where possible, from reference photographs, and - for commissions - from close collaboration with the client.

In their words
"I commissioned a landscape of a childhood view on my return to England after a 50 year absence. Heather accompanied me to the viewpoint, listened to my rambling reminisces, and produced a most extraordinary interpretation which fully reflected my affection for the area."
